Snakes of Auroville & Pondicherry

"The aim of this "handbook" is to educate and to help people get rid of their fears & misconceptions about snakes. It is to impress the conservation of snakes and to accept them as our friends who are useful rodent controllers. In this book, I have put together detailed photos/technics for identifying the common snakes of the Auroville & Pondicherry areas. As often we have here snakes in the residential areas that cause great tension and worries, which end unfortunately by killing the snake. This killing can be stopped by bringing awareness and appreciation for animals in general and their useful role in our eco-system.

For me, children are the key here and their role in conservation is essential. This book is largely put together with the enthusiasm and encouragement that I received from them. I wish to be able to reach out to more children all over India, especially those in rural areas. Children are more sensitive when young to their surroundings which is why projects related to animals can become an effective means to consciously widen their understanding ."  Rajeev Bhatt
